The Food News Roundup will be an irregular feature of UVFood.com, to be published when there's enough news to warrant an article.

Back in the spring, Plainfield's Home Hill Inn reopened under the guidance of Chef Paula Snow. Chef Snow brings with her a fine dining experience with a focus on local, seasonal foods.

Chef Robb Taylor, recently of Elixir, is now at The Jackson House in Woodstock, while Chef Nicole Affeldt, who previously ran the kitchen at Umpleby's in Hanover, has taken over the kitchen at Elixir with Chef Chris Evans. Chef Affeldt and Chef Evans continue the Elixir tradition of whimsical, creative, inspired foods, bringing their own personal flairs to the menu.

The new Hanover Farmer's Market, run by Sally Wilson, former owner of The Norwich Inn, has been quite a success. Dedicated to bring farm produce into downtown Hanover, the market offers prepared foods, fresh vegetables, meats and live music.

Erik Hartling (of Tip Top Cafe)'s new venture Tuckerbox in WRJ has also been well received. Tuckerbox is a comfortable coffee shop which serves soups, sandwiches, salads and baked goods. Another new coffee shop, Jake's Coffee Company, opened in Lebanon. Jake's offers coffee, wraps, sandwiches and baked goods with drive through service and an attached car wash.

Gusanoz has opened a new branch in Hanover called "Gusanoz Taqueria". Gusanoz Taqueria is a slimmed down version of the Gusanoz mothership, with a menu designed for quick service and unbundled food, with low cost tacos and other offerings.

West Lebanon's Burger King recently reopened after being rebuilt from the ground up.

Businesses are shifting away from summer hours. Jesse's, which installed a new outdoor dining area earlier this summer, is no longer open for lunch. The Fore-U is now closing at 9PM rather than 10PM. Most of the area's seasonal businesses will be closing in October, and most of the farmer's markets will be ending in either late September or October. Keep on the lookout for an article with updates on the final days of the markets.
