Located in Concord, MA, Verrill Farm is a bit far afield to be considered part of the Upper Valley, but they deserve some mention and support here. If you're not familiar with them, Verrill Farm is an old and distinguished New England farm. Started in 1922, Verrill used to be a dairy farm and now concentrates on crops and its farm stand. Still owned by the Verrill family, the farm put most of its land into conservation in the 1980's to save it from possible future development. Verrill Farm suffered a devastating fire which destroyed their farmstand on September 20th.
Even in the best of times, farming is not an easy profession. It's difficult work dealing with conditions you have little control over, creating a product that even at best must be sold very cheaply. And these are not the best of times. For a farm like Verrill, the farmstand is the prime way that it interacts with many of its customers. Many of the Boston area's finest restaurants are Verrill's customers (the restaurant I was once involved in, Tea-Tray In The Sky/Elements, was as well), but selling to individuals is also a vital part of its business and its mission. And losing the farmstand during harvest season is particularly difficult. There are many benefits being held to help out Verrill Farm. If you are so moved, please check their web site and see what you may be able to do to help.
